Muffen Pl. und Muffe f., später auch Muff m. Das Femininum hat sich als Übertragung in die technische Sprache ("Verbindungsstück") gehalten. Das niederländische Wort ist entlehnt aus frz. moufle m., dem ein ml. muffula m. vorausgeht.
